UFC lightweight champion Islam Makhachev defended his title last night (Saturday February 11, 2023) against UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski inside the RAC Arena in Perth, in Australia, by unanimous decision (watch the highlights!).
At the UFC 284 post-fight press conference, Volkanovski was disappointed with the fight as he felt he could have won, but he gave his opponent props for winning the fight even though he was near (look at him).
However, a few hours after the fight, Volkanovski walked back his statement on Twitter and said he definitely thought he won after seeing it again.
“I just watched the fight, I really think I won 2, 3 and 5,” Volkanovski wrote. “Surprised I didn’t raise my hand! Let’s do the rematch, anytime, anywhere!”
I just watched the fight, I really think I won 2.3 and 5. Surprised I didn’t raise my hand! Let’s do the revenge, anywhere, anytime!

The second round is the round that will be dissected for a few weeks, because it was very tight.
At least Nate Diaz is on Volkanovski’s side.
Volkanoski (25-2) saw his 22-fight winning streak at UFC 284 and will come back down to featherweight to defend his title against Yair Rodriguez, who won the interim title against Josh Emmett in the co-main event (watch) .
