Jessica Andrade and Erin Blanchfield squared off in a women’s flyweight contest earlier tonight (Saturday, Feb. 18, 2023) at UFC Vegas 69 from inside the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada. In a savage fight, Blanchfield submitted his opponent in the second.
Both women wasted no time in the trade and Andrade landed a big right hand early. To his credit, Blanchfield fought back and landed a few straight punches. Then she smartly snagged along the fence, but Andrade quickly spun to the center. Andrade defended another takedown moments later, but Blanchfield stood tall.
Blanchfield landed a nice crossover then another! Andrade lunged forward, but she looked sloppy and swinging wildly. An uppercut from Andrade found its market, causing some redness. She started to land more effectively in the second half of the round, which ended with a final takedown attempt by Blanchfield.
After some quick exchanges from both women to start the second, Blanchfield scored her first out of the fight with a trip inside. Andrade almost immediately dropped his back, allowing Blanchfield to jump on it and immediately lock in a bare back choke!
Blanchfield just announced herself as one of the best female fighters in the sport. It’s an elite talent, here and now! Her kickboxing showed a lot of improvement here, and she also proved a lot by willingly stepping into the fire against a proven performer.
