Bo Nickal is as confident as it gets.
Penn State wrestling star Nickal will make his highly anticipated Octagon debut at UFC 285 this weekend (Saturday, March 4, 2023) in a middleweight bout against Jamie Pickett. Nickal, 27, earned his place in the promotion with two flawless phenomenal performances on Dana WhiteContender Series (DWCS) in 2022.
Although he is only 3-0 and hasn’t even fought for the UFC yet, Nickal called for a fight against top welterweight contender Khamzat Chimaev and he think it’s only a matter of time before the match takes place.
“That would be huge,” Nickal said of a fight against Chimaev at UFC 285 media day. “I think obviously he gets a lot of attention. big and the most publicized who hasn’t won a belt yet. I think that eventually we will collide is inevitable. So that’s something that I visualize in my training and when I train hard, that I do my last bike sprint, doing my last rep in the weight room.
“Whether this fight is in a year or in three years, five years, whatever it is, I will be ready,” he added. “I do a lot of visualization and I see this fight playing out as a main event in [the Las Vegas] Raiders Stadium (Allegiant Stadium) in front of 100,000 people. I think it would be the biggest event in UFC history. So only time will tell if we will make it or not, but I am doing everything in my power to make it happen.
Although Chimaev is currently ranked at the top of the welterweight division, it looks like ‘Borz’ next move will be a return to 185lbs after he was severely underweight for his last outing at UFC 279 in September 2022. Initially Scheduled for the main event against Nate Diaz, Chimaev’s blunder on the scales saw him face off and dominate Kevin Holland at 180lbs en route to a first-round arce submission victory (see highlights ).
