The UFC commentary table is known to burst for high-profile wins, especially when they end in a shocking finish, but not everyone was jumping for joy when Jon Jones claimed the heavyweight crown. by submitting Ciryl Gane in the main event of UFC 285.
And by “everyone,” I mean color commentator Daniel Cormier; but to be fair, Joe Rogan looked just as puzzled (though not as grumpy).
Like many fans in the arena (and watching at home), “DC” struggled to process the finishing streak, in part because it happened so quickly, but mostly because the chokehold sash applied by Jones was difficult to see from several angles.
Fans on social media, however, claim Cormier was sucking on sour grapes.
DC give me hate vibes
Why is DC so bitter?!!
DC was visibly upset with the win.
Cormier is pissed lol
DC immediately hating is crazy
Cormier paints a totally different picture.
“Not bitter at all, legitimately couldn’t see what he tapped on until we saw the different camera angle,” Cormier wrote on Twitter. “You can definitely create things. I don’t care anyway, I’m here to call fights only.
The win sent Jones to the top of the pound-for-pound standings.
“I don’t believe, in my opinion, that he should be No. 1 pound for pound,” Cormier said on his subsequent “DC & RC” show. “I think Alexander Volkanovski should always stay there. I don’t think he should be the #1 pound-for-pound fighter in the world, but I have no problem with people voting for him.
