Kamaru Usman is aging and is coming off a knockout loss to Leon Edwards.
Possibly a second straight loss to “Rocky” when they collide in the main event of UFC 286 pay-per-view (PPV) this Saturday. night (March 18, 2023) at The O2 in London, England will help send ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ into retirement where he can pursue his career in fashion.
After all, styles make outfits! Or was it fights?
“I heard he was flying like a stylist and all that,” Edwards said on the UFC 286 media day. “Our mindsets are in two different places. I feel like he’s about to leave and I was going to open the door for him and give him another path to follow his fashion dreams and follow him where he wants to go. From his mentality and the way he moves, I think he already has one… something came out and I was going to add to that. Whether he retires afterwards or not is up to him.
Edwards uncorked a late header to crush Usman in the main event of UFC 278 last August in Salt Lake City, winning the 170-pound title while avenging a loss to ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ in their first meeting at UFC on FOX 17 in late 2015.
“I feel like I want to become one of the best welterweights to do it and I believe I can,” Edwards continued. “I changed my goal to become the best of all time. Why not? I haven’t lost in so long, I’ve won so many fights, I’m going to keep working and making that money too. I want to be able to change my family’s life. That’s my goal right now, to leave my family more secure with more financial freedom than when I arrived.
Becoming the best at doing it means moving past this welterweight legend.
