On Saturday, Jake Paul took down another aging MMA legend, defeating Anderson Silva in a fight that we will begrudgingly describe as quite entertaining. What’s next for Paul, who has now beaten two former UFC champions? Maybe Nate Diaz. Maybe Floyd Mayweather. And much further down the list of possibilities: possibly Tyson Fury’s little brother, Tommy.
Tommy Fury was booked to fight Jake Paul twice, and he pulled out both times. The first fight was canceled due to a rib injury. The second was canceled after Tommy was reportedly unable to enter the United States due to his brother’s ties to drug cartel leader Daniel Kinahan. Both times Jake accused Tommy of faking his way out of the fight, but maybe the third time is the charm?
In an Instagram story added on the eve of the Silva vs. Paul fight, Tommy Fury said: “Make sure you get the job done tonight mate so I can see you next year and smash your whole front of the face.”
After the fight, Tommy’s outspoken father John Fury tore Jake Paul to his core, calling him out for fighting 47-year-old Anderson Silva.
“If one of my sons was fifty years old and doing this, I would say, ‘Listen, take the day off, give your head a wobble,'” Fury Sr. said. it’s ridiculing yourself and entertaining others. You make the other man look good who is useless. Jake Paul can’t fight. [Tommy] will knock out Jake Paul with one punch. And I’m going to say it now on camera: Jake Paul will be knocked out with the first right hand he throws, and I’ll put money on it. »
John Fury slammed Jake Paul for continuing to face MMA fighters instead of professional boxers.
“That man [Tommy] fights here, at least he’s a real fighter,” he said. “He trains as a boxer. All he fights, he’s had seven professional fights against proper opposition. Not a handpicked geriatric who needs a Zimmer frame [walker] to get in the ring.
Immediately following his decision win over Anderson Silva, Jake Paul addressed haters as John Fury.
“They’re going to find something to say,” Paul said. “’Fighting a real boxer!’ B—ch, I tried. Hey, if I walked on water, people would say I can’t swim. So there will always be haters, there will always be critics, and it’s just there, it’s everyday, it’s part of life if you do something and you succeed. So I don’t care about this shit and that’s just the start baby.
Jake Paul then called out Nate Diaz and Canelo Alvarez, two much bigger and more marketable opponents than Tommy Fury. If John Fury hopes to challenge Jake Paul in a third fight attempt, he may need to up the intensity. Not until an 11, maybe. But further than that.
What do you guys think? Is there still value in Jake Paul fighting Tommy Fury, possibly in the UK? Where did this ship sail (and sink)?
