The good news continues to arrive for Michigan football in 2023 as another precious announced he was returning to Ann Arbor.
Barrett will only continue to add to his storied Michigan Man story.
A former QB, he instead chose Michigan to play Viper’s position in defense of Don Brown. Barrett rose through the ranks playing mostly on special teams, even showing off his pitching skills on fixed plays. When Michigan made the defensive coordinator change, Barrett didn’t hesitate. Instead, he adapted to play the WILL in Michigan’s new defensive scheme. He struggled with injuries and accepted a depth role where he was a solid contributor in 2021.
With an opportunity to start in 2022, Barrett took full advantage of the chance he deserved. Barrett finished the team season second in tackles, an All-B1G selection, and voted the team’s most improved player on defense.
This defense exceeded expectations in 2022 and Barrett was a big piece. He will be one of the leaders of the 2023 team, on and off the pitch. As I said in an article a few weeks ago, your team is better if Michael Barrett is on it. Michigan improved tonight.
