It’s no secret that Paulo Costa is looking beyond his current contract with the UFC.
The Brazilian hasn’t kept quiet about his salary complaints. Despite rising through the ranks and becoming one of his division’s top contenders and biggest draws, Costa remains on an old contract, meaning his fight purses haven’t increased much. As a result, he plans to switch to boxing or move to another promotion when his contract expires.
Currently, Costa only has one fight left on his UFC contract. He is due to face former champion Robert Whittaker at UFC 284 in Australia and then his future is up in the air. For fans hoping for a face change that will see Costa stay in the Octagon… things aren’t looking great.
“Just 1 fight to get out of the UFC contract,” Costa tweeted. “So I politely declined. They’re offering a 6-fight deal, but I’m not interested in a multi-fight deal.
Considering multi-fight deals are pretty much all the UFC is ever willing to offer, it looks like Costa’s UFC career will end in Australia unless one party is willing to move. . Alternatively, World Series of Fighting (WSOF) veteran Saul Almeida offered an interesting second option for “Borrachinha”.
