Twelve years after his championship run The ultimate fighter (TUF), Tony Ferguson could return to the TUF house. The above tweet from Ferguson is, as usual, garbled in “El Cucuy” speech, but thankfully years of experience reading Tony Ferguson’s tweets have given me some fluency in deciphering its code.
“I was asked to coach on TUF against Ol’e Fathead” is a reference to Khabib Nurmagomedov, the rivalry that never made it into the Octagon despite four attempts to book the “cursed” fight. The two were reportedly on track to train against each other as recently as September 2022, but perhaps Khabib’s decision to retire from the sport interfered with those plans.
With Nurmagomedov released, Ferguson’s “I Choose You McKnacker” @TheNotoriousMMA See Ewe Soon” appears to be a direct response to Conor McGregor’s recent post about coaching the show.
Entertainment aside, the combat makes a bit of sense. Both men recently competed at welterweight, and they are going through tough times. Admittedly, Ferguson’s slippage is much more severe. He’s lost five in a row, mostly by stoppage, while McGregor has only lost two in a row against Dustin Poirier. Still, McGregor’s recent activities include recovering a broken leg and filming scenes for the truck stop restart, so it makes sense for him to challenge an opponent outside the Top 10 on his return.
