Welcome to Midnight Mania!
Bobby Green is a well-respected MMA veteran, but he hasn’t really been a ranked lightweight contender since upsetting Josh Thomson in 2014. This will stand out as a weird footnote that Green was the eventual winner. of Makhachev’s winning streak before capturing the lightweight title. The whole situation isn’t entirely dissimilar to how Al Iaquinta found himself locked in the cage with Khabib the night ‘The Eagle’ became champion.
Short-notice circumstances lead to fun facts.
Either way, Makhachev cut Green like a hot knife through butter, easily stopping the rarely finished “King”. Green initially took the loss in stride, but a few months later Green was left baffled by Makhachev’s formidable strength. His explanation? “Imagine if you gave someone steroids as young as 10 years old.”
Makhachev has a different explanation. In his view, his extreme wrestling strength is the result of avoiding “bad things” like alcohol, as well as a lifetime of hard work.
“I don’t know. I’m not like Bobby Green. I’m not drunk, I do bad things,” Makhachev said (via MMANews). “I train hard, that’s why. That’s why he feels the power. I told you, every fighter says, ‘I’m going to defend his fight.’ …But, when a fight happens, when I take down my opponent, they all feel my power… It’s not because I’m good. It’s because I (have) trained all my life. That is why.”
We’ll find out if Alexander Volkanovski can handle that strength any better in a few more days in the main event of UFC 284.

A pair of underrated lightweight veterans will drop in April.
Is Petr Yan a small bantamweight or Muhammad Mokaev a big flyweight? Because both have about the same weight.
Some updates from the world of Power Slap:
That’s bad news for fighters at UFC 284 who lost more weight than average, especially if they’re in the preliminary round of the event.
I realized that the official weigh-ins only take place 24 hours before the start of UFC 284, fighters will only have 24 hours to recover from the cut. this means that some of the fighters (especially those important to their division like Makhachev & Emmett) may be exhausted on FN. pic.twitter.com/hyVVkQpJKa

Georges St. Pierre remains a complete athletic specimen how many years after his retirement? His ridiculous level of fitness will never be impressive.
Matt Brown isn’t as fast as he used to be, but “The Immortal” still lands with a thump.

Hand traps are smooth.

Using the left hand to reset after the left kick and punish potential counters is really a nice technique.
