Welcome to Midnight Mania!
Jon Jones’ heavyweight move has been discussed for over a decade, but it’s only been three years since he made his decision to come forward. Much of the focus was on his physical development, as Jones prioritized strength training. However, there is also the element of adapting his technical game to deal with the new challenge.
We’ve seen clips of Heavyweight Jones punching mitts, but there’s been very little fight footage available. He’s a stranger! Still, that hasn’t stopped fight fans online from judging Jones’ choice of sparring partners revealed in the Countdown to UFC 285 video. training as UFC veterans Walt Harris, Maurice Greene and Yorgan de Castro. Of the three, Harris is the only one left on the list and he hasn’t won a fight since 2019.
The fighting community is not impressed at all. Check out some of the reactions below:
So his team of “beasts” is:
-a guy who went 1-3 in the UFC, lost to Greg Hardy and got cut.
-possibly the worst fighter I’ve seen professionally, also lost to Hardy and got cut.
-a 13-10 year old guy who will be 40 this year, is still in the UFC BUT hasn’t won in 4 years. https://t.co/3zQqcLX2po

Green and De Castro are 2 of the worst HW’s I’ve seen

Something about Jones bringing in Yorgan De Castro and Mo Greene when he most likely could have had someone like Benjamin Adegbuyi?
Probably not. Mud sharpens iron, as they say. or wait, no https://t.co/da3VpzKr3O

It’s a matter of ego. He could easily bring in some Glory champions, guys who are big and fast and move and punch like Gane. But he wants to be able to beat all his sparring partners instead of getting the real look he needs.

Jon Jones says Ciryl Gane beats “lesser opponents” in practice while bragging about the “beasts” Jones has recruited for camp: Maurice Greene, Yorgan de Castro and Walt Harris. A combined 1-8 in their last nine UFC fights (via UFC Countdown) #UFC285

“Beat Lesser Opponents” bro you literally did the same with Walt Harris, Yorgan De Castro, Maurice Greene and Mayes pic.twitter.com/v8fDto7FNS

In defense of the “Bones” team, there aren’t many men who can fight like Ciryl Gane – that’s why he’s so good! It’s hard to find top-notch heavyweight sparring partners who aren’t ranked in the UFC Top 10.
On the other side of the equation, who does Gane train with to prepare for Jones? I don’t have the full MMA Factory roster and can’t name any of their heavyweights other than Alan Baudot, but Gane flew in at least one elite Glory Light Heavyweight kickboxer, Imad Hadar, to help hone his stand-up.
We will just have to wait for the main event of UFC 285 this Saturday evening (March 4, 2023) from Las Vegas, Nevada to see whose preparation was superior.
… Sounds a bit like a certain English “gorilla” in trouble.
Francis Ngannou uses Jon Jones’ own words against him, which isn’t terribly hard to do considering how often he contradicts himself.
Jake Paul vs. Tommy Fury got Oscar De La Hoya HEAT!
Attacker versus fighter, but their names are really similar!
I have no idea what it’s called. All I can offer is that Urijah Faber teaches a back waist counter-lock which involves getting behind the legs in the same way.
Shout out to Wiz Khalifa for loving Muay Thai by making it a public spectacle.
Slips, tears and KO clips
Barez chose his shots well to follow the reversal and force the finish.
Perfect timing to track down his opponent’s attempt to circumvent.
It’s a man’s leg that dies in front of us.
A group of drivers crash the same way because they can’t follow basic traffic signs.
