Welcome to Midnight Mania!
In recent years, bare-knuckle boxing has carved out a place for itself. To the surprise of some, Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship (BKFC) is entering its fifth year in the fight promotion business. Last year, BKFC organized 20 events across the country, as well as three trips to Thailand.
Business seems to be booming.
Although ZUFFA boxing is a dead business, the UFC and Dana White are also looking to expand into alternative forms of competition. Power Slap debuted this month, and while there were a few viral knockouts, the complete lack of defense soured the opinions of many viewers.
There is also the question of how exactly this sport was sanctioned. The Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) is a miserly bunch, but they quickly approved White’s pet project…provided no one died! The BKFC, meanwhile, remains blocked from the state of Nevada.
Longtime UFC veteran and recent BKFC signing Diego Sanchez doesn’t get it at all. He recently took to Instagram to express his confusion and disgust at Power Slap. “I take it the NSAC isn’t worried about these guys?” ” He wrote. “In all my years of combat sports I have never taken a head impact with this type of pure connection and direct positioning! As a fighter you can throw a punch and have vasoline and not chalk on our faces.
Say what you will about bare-knuckle carnage, but at least its participants can block, roll, and slide punches! Speaking to BJPenn.com, Sanchez explained and explained his belief that the UFC’s relationship with the NSAC keeps bare-knuckle boxing banned in Las Vegas.
“It’s the farthest west BKFC (going to Albuquerque) and of course in their expansion, of course they want Vegas,” Sanchez said. “But, the UFC has the lock on that, they will not sanction BKFC where they are combat athletes who are trained fighters and warriors. But, they will sanction Power Slap where you have a powerlifter kicking the hell out of another guy causing real brain damage.
Next up for Sanchez is a showdown against former boxing champion Austin Trout at BKFC: “Knucklemania 3” in Albuquerque, New Mexico on February 17.

It’s my dream job, but I just got my 30 days notice.
BE will no longer be “supported” in the latest Vox cuts. I’m disgusted as I grew up with the site, but I’ll always be proud of my team and their place in MMA journalism pic.twitter.com/3YublIoSI8

I’m having a hard time not predicting Kevin Holland lying to Santiago Ponzinibbio in short order, but there’s nobody tougher than “Gente Boa!”

Hey @MikeChandlerMMA it’s time to defend your ranking! Lowest fighting IQ in the division against new generation mma. I won’t see you at the top

In my experience, professional MMA fights are almost always a very roundabout way to become a cop, sell real estate, or start a small business. All the best to Jimmie Rivera for moving forward!
In his first four UFC fights, Rafael Alves faced Damir Ismagulov, Marc Diakiese, Drew Dober, and now undefeated Tajik Combat Sambo fighter Nurullo Aliev. I just want to see the Brazilian style on someone!

Classic Thai style to ride it as the fight goes on.
Here’s an old-fashioned guillotine: grab onto the head and try to rip it off!
Yusuf Raisov submits Alain Ilunga via guillotine choke in round 2, improving to 20-3. After a tough LW GP semi-final loss, the former ACB FW champion picks up one in the win column. #ACA151 pic.twitter.com/FxjAum474w
