Mike Perry appears to be an option for Jake Paul’s next outing.
“Platinum” found his place in the bare-knuckle boxing community after parting ways with the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) in 2021. Despite that, he was ready to put on the big gloves for a clash with the YouTube star turned boxer. , Jacques-Paul.
According to Perry today (Tuesday January 3, 2023), the two sides have negotiated for a match to take place next month (February 2023).
“I signed a contract to fight @jakepaul but he changed his mind (shrug emoji)”, Perry tweeted.
Perry’s biggest post-UFC victory came in his final stoppage time against top-ranked Bellator welterweight contender Michael “Venom” Page. Perry won the contest by majority decision, extending his winning streak to three (see highlights). The brash and outspoken personality has expressed interest in participating in any combat sport that calls his name at this point (even if it’s overseas in a place like Russia).
Paul, meanwhile, has won all six of his professional boxing matches. In October 2022, he picked up a huge win over former UFC middleweight champion and all-time great Anderson Silva via unanimous decision (see highlights).
The new year holds promise (literally) for Paul who has continued his support for better pay for mixed martial arts (MMA) fighters. As for his next potential opponents, Paul is “tired of beating those old dudes.”
With Perry just 31, it remains to be seen if he qualifies for the age cap that Paul is now putting in place. Although the ‘problem kid’ still has an interest in going head-to-head with longtime UFC veteran Nate Diaz (37), who is also plotting his next move in combat sports free agency .
