Mike Perry and Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship (BKFC) threw their names in the Nate Diaz draw hat.
UFC 279 two weekends ago (September 10, 2022) marked the official end of Diaz’s 15-year run with Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). Defeating Tony Ferguson via fourth-round guillotine submission (watch the highlights), the Stockton, Calif. native is heading into free agency with some momentum.
The general consensus is that Diaz will next be seen stepping into the ring for a supposed match against someone like Jake Paul. However, Perry and his current fighting house have since expressed interest.
“If he wants to accept the challenge and challenge himself, he loves boxing, I know he also loves jiu-jitsu, so I don’t know if that’s something he would be fully interested in,” said Perry at MMA Fighting. “Without jiu-jitsu against me and just boxing, I don’t know if he sees himself having a chance against me in the bare-knuckle boxing ring.
“There is no animosity, he is a great competitor, and so am I,” he concluded.
Perry and Diaz shared spots on the UFC roster as welterweights, but never saw their paths cross. As for the aforementioned folks, Paul, Diaz and Perry will be keeping a close eye on the YouTube sensation’s upcoming matchup with Anderson Silva on October 22, 2022.
“I know he’s trying to connect this fight with Jake Paul, just like me,” Perry said. “I’m also trying to get that fight with Jake Paul. I don’t know if he surpasses Silva and if he will be ready to fight after fighting Silva, that he would be ready to fight if he loses. I am here to do great things.
