Muhammad Mokaev does not condone the behavior of rising lightweight star Paddy Pimblett and he tells ‘The Baddy’ about it.
Mokaev, who beat flyweight Charles Johnson yesterday afternoon (Saturday July 23, 2022) at UFC London live on ESPN+ from the O2 Arena in London, England, met with reporters after the fight to discuss of his performance. Pimblett’s name came up and Mokaev held nothing back to address the Englishman’s negative effect on the sport.
“There are so many guys who don’t get a lot of media attention that should get it,” Mokaev said (via Cageside Press). “Example, Arnold Allen. This is Leon Edwards. This is Tom Aspinall. Nathaniel Bois. These guys are amazing, great examples. I’m not disrespecting the media, but you give attention to a guy like Paddy Pimblett.
“These guys never make it to the top 15. Like, realistically, [if you understand MMA] he will never reach it. I don’t think he’s a good role model for young people. Please follow Tom Aspinall, Arnold Allen, Leon Edwards, real men inside and outside the cage. I’m proud to be on the same map as a man like Tom Aspinall.
Pimblett, who was one of the biggest attractions on the UFC London card, delivered his main showdown with fellow lightweight Jordan Leavitt. “Baddy” earned a second-round submission before using his post-fight interview to raise awareness about mental health. It was a great moment to say the least, but Mokaev looks at the big picture and doesn’t think Pimblett is setting a good example.
“This guy is pulling his pants down,” Mokaev said. “A man doesn’t do that. Women don’t do that stuff. Drop his pants, get fat, drink beer, like an animal. Liverpool men, I know real Scouse, they don’t do that kind of stuff. This guy is just too much. I’m not a hater, I just want to see a new generation follow real men. If you’re talking about British guys, there’s Tom Aspinall. There is Arnold Allen. Leon Edwards. The men of the world, what they do, they will support you.
“Not that guy, walk behind security when he sees a camera then he’s like a real guy, but when there’s no camera he hides. I see that. I know that energy. I don’t I’m not a kid who says, “Everyone is pushing me into the cage, please go fight. I grew up crazy too.”
What do you think, fight fans? Is Pimblett overdoing it or playing into the hands of MMA fans everywhere?
Let’s hear it!
