Muscle aches and pains are now among the main symptoms of COVID

adminJanuary 10, 2023

Editor’s note: This story has been updated to correct the study’s findings on COVID symptoms. We regret the error.

KSNF/KODE – According to ZOE Health Study (a health science company that claims to be running the “world’s largest COVID science project with over four million participants”), their latest data reveals that the top symptoms reported by contributors with positive COVID tests are:

  • A sore throat
  • A runny nose
  • A stuffy nose
  • To sneeze
  • A cough without phlegm

The ZOE Health Study reportedly only listed the top five symptoms. But over time, the health science society said its research on COVID showed these symptoms changed frequently. Some reasons include the introduction of vaccines and the emergence of new variants.

Now, ZOE Health Study has decided to report the top ten symptoms, which they believe remain more stable. These symptoms include:

  • A sore throat
  • A runny nose
  • A stuffy nose
  • To sneeze
  • A cough without phlegm
  • A headache
  • A cough with phlegm
  • A hoarse voice
  • Muscle aches and pains
  • An altered sense of smell

A publication in the National Journal of Medicine reports that muscle pain (also known as myalgia) may be the onset symptom in 36% of patients with COVID-19.

Loss of smell and taste, high fever and shortness of breath were considered the “classic” symptoms when COVID was first discovered. But with the emergence of Omicron and the increase in vaccination coverage, the symptoms associated with the infection have changed. Symptoms that have been widely reported include sore throat, runny nose, headache, and fatigue.

Now, it seems, COVID-related symptoms are growing, with more than a quarter of patients reporting their first symptoms as sharp pain in the shoulders and legs, widely known as myalgia.

Myalgia is basically a condition in which the muscles in your body begin to ache. You experience muscle pain, especially joint pain. This pain can be excruciating or mild depending on how well your body’s immunity is able to fight off the infection. People often suffer from myalgia in the shoulders and legs.

This is also known as “COVID muscle pain” and it just attacks your movement and provides discomfort. Myalgia can be accompanied by long-term and short-term pain. You may not necessarily feel this pain only when moving your body. It can also happen while you are resting. If you have any of the symptoms listed above, it is always best to consult your doctor for proper diagnosis and treatment.
