Thousands of people came to the beach on Saturday to see the Falcon Heavy launch in person. Here in Central Florida I’m used to the almost weekly launches of Space X Falcon 9 rockets, but Sunday’s launch of the Falcon Heavy was truly spectacular. Just before 6:00 p.m. Sunday night, SpaceX’s Falcon 7 rocket took off into the sky, sending tens of thousands of spectators gathered along the Brevard County coast. “It’s incredible! I’ve never seen it before and it exceeded my expectations, on paper. It was just beautiful,” said Pat Quinn, a launch inspector in Michigan. The Falcon Heavy, which is SpaceX’s most powerful rocket, shows enough. The crowd at Space View Park oohed and ahhed as the side boosters dropped from the core of the rocket and turned to cut back through Earth’s atmosphere. The setting sun illuminated the entire launch creating a stunning display. “I saw the first Falcon Heavy and this one was much better because of the whole jelly effect,” said RJ Bruneo, a launch inspector. “I just thought it was the most amazing show I’ve ever seen. I’ve only seen it on television,” said Marianne Vasievich, who is a teacher from Michigan. She was excited to tell her students what it felt like to see the launch in person. “I’m so proud to be an American. The Floridians greeted us and welcomed us and said, ‘Hey, come and share this moment with us,'” Vasievich said. The Falcon Heavy launch mission was made for the US military, which carries a pair of communications satellites into orbit. Saturday It was originally scheduled for the night, but it was delayed until Sunday, and the crowd, many of whom came out two nights in a row, said it was worth the delay. “Isn’t it worth your wait? is that what you expected?” asked WESH 2’s Amanda Dukes. “Oh absolutely. I work at Cape Canaveral. I see this all the time. This was one of the nicest,” said resident Jason Quiroga.
