From spiders that catapult travel to sea sponges that clean themselves by sneezing safely, here are the creatures that impressed the most in 2022.
foxes are fished
There were no pics either. In the first example of fox fishing, a team from Spain filmed a red fox (Foxes) picking up Chapter 10 in two hours (SN: 11/5/22, p. 4). The only other type of canine that does this is foxes – wolves can do this too – they are known to eat fish for dinner.
Skydiving salamander
A flying squirrel, but a skydiving salamander? This bold amphibian, native to northern California, can jump and slide between the tops of towering redwood trees. It stretches its front and back legs like a skydiver, a wandering salamander.Aeneides wandering) can control and adjust its speed and direction while in the air (SN: 6/18/22, p. 12).
clever cockatoos
In a battle for centuries, people in Sydney had to erect their own defenses to stop cockatoos from sitting through the garbage filter (SN: 10/8/22 & 10/22/22, p. 10). The birds have learned to use violent force on the hin lids, while the sneakers are better deterred by the bin handles. But these garbage thieves can eventually find an investment around that too.
Spring to the safety of the spiders
Philoponella prominent males make a deadly fool, so that it is not eaten by the spouse after sex. The wheel weaver uses hydraulic pressure on the leg joints to move it about 90 centimeters per second to safety (SN Online: 4/25/22).
Joyriding hippurus
Teach the motorized fish to drive the fish and it will drive wherever it wants. The hippopotamus shows that it can navigate outside its natural environment and reach its target (SN: 2/12/22, p. 4). Perhaps one day these hip fish will boldly go where no fish has gone before.
Snotty, sneezing sea sponge
These creatures take care of themselves to a higher degree. Sponges are filter feeders, sucking water through pores to obtain nutrients. But when unwanted junk comes in Aplysina archeri The sponge tube traps particles in the mucus, then expels the sneeze in a slow motion (SN: 9/10/22, p. 4). Caribbean sponges are constantly oozing mucus like a child with a runny nose. Someone could use a similar text.
