USC coach Lincoln Riley revealed on Wednesday that the Trojans will be without All-American left guard Andrew Vorhees and star receiver Jordan Addison for the Cotton Bowl, along with center Brett Neilon and running back Travis. Dye, who were already known for their injuries.
Vorhees missed two games — including the Pac-12 Championship game loss to Utah — with an undisclosed injury.
Addison missed two games and was limited in two more midway through the season with an ankle injury.
Riley said of Vorhees: “He’s been just a warrior for us all year. I know it kills him not being able to play, but right now he’s put it on the line for this team all year. I can’t say enough about him and the work he’s done, obviously he’s had a terrific career here at USC. He’ll be a big part of our preparation for the bowl. , but in a different way.
Riley noted that Addison “chose to continue treating his ankle injury, which has been going on since the middle of the season.”
“Other than that, we expect every guy on the roster to be available, ready to play,” Riley said.
USC has three on-campus practices at the end of this week before giving players a three-day break to return home for Christmas. The Trojans travel to Dallas, Texas on Dec. 27 to continue preparations for the Jan. 2 game between the Cotton Bowl and Tulane.
“We had a number of very, very good practices. The guys continued I think the momentum of the season and even pre-season in terms of how we trained and our approach to go and play this game,” Riley said. “I can tell you our players are thrilled with this, they really are. They trained well, they did a great job with our strength and conditioning staff while we were on the road recruiting across the country, and it was obvious when we got back to the field that they were physically in a great place, I think mentally in a great place and they were really looking forward to being back there to train.”
