UFC 283 medical suspensions bench nearly a dozen fighters for six months, including Deiveson Figueiredo and Jamahal Hill

The Brazilian Commission for Athletics MMA (CABMMA) recently released its list of injuries and medical suspensions for athletes participating in pay-per-view (PPV) UFC 283, which took place last Saturday. night (January 21, 2023) inside the Youth Arena in Rio de Janeiro.

Light heavyweight headliners Glover Teixeira and Jamahal Hill were among 11 fighters suspended for six months for injuries sustained in last weekend’s mixed martial arts (MMA) event and among five who were suspended for six months. suffered broken bones in their respective cage fights.

Thiago Moises: Mandatory suspension 14 days.
Melquizael Costa: 180 days or eliminated by X-ray of the left hand. Also suspended mandatory 30 days.
Gabriel Bonfim: Mandatory suspension 14 days.
Mounir Lazzez: Mandatory suspension 30 days for laceration.
Shamil Abdurakhimov: Suspended 45 days for loss of TKO.
Jailton Almeida: Mandatory suspension 14 days.
Luan Lacerda: Mandatory suspension 14 days.
Cody Stammann: 180 days or eliminated by X-ray of the left forearm. Also suspended mandatory 30 days.
Ismael Bonfim: Mandatory suspension 14 days.
Terrance McKinney: Mandatory suspension 90 days for KO loss.
Warley Alves: 180 days or authorized by ortho for toe, oral and maxillofacial surgeon for orbital. Also suspended mandatory 30 days.
Nicholas Dalby: 180 days or eliminated by X-rays of the right elbow and left thumb. Also suspended mandatory 30 days.
Josiane Nunes: 180 days or eliminated by X-ray of the right arm. Also suspended mandatory 30 days.
Zarah Fairn dos Santos: Mandatory suspension 30 days.
Saimon Oliveira: Suspended 45 days for loss of TKO.
Daniel Marcos: Suspended mandatory 14 days.

Just a quick reminder: fighters often return to action much quicker once doctors give them the all clear. Long suspensions are just a precaution in most cases. Additionally, not all injuries are recorded during the post-fight examination and often surface during follow-up testing.
