Dana White’s New Year’s holiday got a little out of control this past weekend (Saturday, December 31, 2022).
A video surfaced today (Monday, January 2, 2023) via TMZ, revealing the President of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) at a nightclub alongside his wife, Anne, dancing. However, things quickly took a turn, as White can be seen taking a slap in the face from his wife before hitting back with several of his own.
“I’m in Cabo [San Lucas], in Mexico with my family for the holidays, and my wife and I were out on Saturday night New Years Eve and unfortunately that’s what happened,” White said of the incident. “I’m one of the guys – you’ve heard me say for years, ‘There’s never an excuse for a guy to get his hands on a woman,’ and now I’m on TMZ to to speak.
“It’s one of those situations that is horrible,” he continued. “I’m embarrassed. There was definitely a lot of alcohol involved, but that’s no excuse. I literally make no apologies for this thing. This has never happened before, this is the first time that it happens. People are going to say what they are going to say, that’s how it is. And whatever people say, it’s deserved. I deserve it.”
The timing of White’s incident comes as he recently promoted his new project Power Slap League, which airs on TBS on January 11, 2023.
Both Dana and Anne appeared to be heavily intoxicated according to witnesses who also said the escalation had apparently escalated. Despite the quick nature of the incident, it ended as quickly as it happened, witnesses said. As for why the incident broke out between White and his wife, the UFC boss couldn’t recall the details.
“No, I don’t remember [what happened]. I don’t remember much,” White said. “Obviously it’s one of those situations, it’s embarrassing for both of us, but more importantly, what concerns us the most is our children.”
TMZ has received a statement from White’s wife, which also expresses that the couple are on good terms again as they wrap up their vacation.
“Dana and I have been married for almost 30 years,” Anne White said. “To say it doesn’t look like him is an understatement – nothing like this has ever happened before. Unfortunately, we were both drinking too much on New Year’s Eve and things got out of hand, on both sides. Spoke to the family and we apologized. I just hope people will respect our privacy for the sake of our children.
The UFC returns to kick off the 2023 calendar year on January 14, 2023, with UFC Vegas 67. The headliner of the event features rising middleweight contender Nassourdine Imavov as he takes on interim title challenger Kelvin Gastelum.
