Saturday’s UFC Vegas 69 featured a lightweight matchup between Marcin Prachnio and William Knight, but the fight did not generate fireworks. As it stands, it will be remembered as one of the worst fights of the year.
Knight looked listless and unwilling to commit. Prachnio responded to that energy by staying just out of reach and stabbing Knight’s legs with kicks. Judges would hand Prachnio the win 30-27 on all three scorecards, and fans would stalk Knight on social media for his lack of aggression.
After the fight, “The Knightmare” released a statement via Instagram apologizing for the performance. The caption read “IDK what was going on, I froze like ab—and I take full responsibility.”
“At the end of the day I went out, froze, didn’t do my part, lost the fight,” he said. “I lost that fight. You didn’t lose that fight. I lost that fight.
“Some of you all want me to win, some of you are betting on me, I get it. I totally get it. In life, human beings aren’t perfect, but I own my actions because I didn’t do any s— Exactly what happened: I stood there, I froze, and I take full responsibility for it.
“I know what I have to do for my next fight,” continued Knight. “I know what I have to do and I understand. All those crazy inboxes of threats, all those inboxes of disrespect, I get it. You all have the right to be angry. I read messages, you all threaten my life, you all talk like crazy, say I don’t belong in the UFC, all this other stuff, but when I was undefeated for three years, you were all surfing the vague. ”
“At the end of the day, I have my legitimate fans, my legitimate people, I have you guys. For the rest of you who are just here to see me down, you got what you wanted.
Knight is on a three-fight losing streak, and Saturday marked his first fight since an April 2022 TKO loss to Devin Clark. Perhaps it was this memory combined with the ring rust that kept him from pulling the trigger. Either way, he’ll be lucky to get another chance in the Octagon after that fight stink.
